Katz for Teenz
Monday-Friday, August 6th-10th, 2 pm-4 pm
Free!
During the second week of August (August 6-10), the Colby College Museum of Art, the Waterville Public Library, and Common Street Arts will lead a weeklong workshop for middle school-age children. This year’s program will focus on the work of contemporary artist Alex Katz, whose paintings will be on view in the Colby Museum’s exhibition Alex Katz: Maine/New York. Students will meet for two hours each day (from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm) to study Katz’s artistic process and create their own paintings. On the last day of the workshop, the children will curate an exhibition of their work at the Waterville Public Library. An opening celebration for the exhibition will take place on Saturday, August 11 at 1:00 pm, and the exhibition will remain on view through the end of the month.
The first meeting on Monday, August 6 will take place at the Colby Museum. The next three meetings (August 7-9) will take place at Common Street Arts, and the last meeting on August 10 will take place at the Waterville Public Library.
