ANNA LOW, PURPLEBEAN BINDERY
Six, 2 hour sessions, Monday evenings 5.30 pm – 7.30 pm
April 3rd – May 8th
Come spend a few weeks learning the art of bookbinding. Over six weekly classes we will make
small folded paper books and fun floppy cards, nifty accordion books, a small poem book using
the Japanese stab binding, leather covered sketchbooks using the long stitch and for the last
two session, constructing a coptic bound journal using recycled book covers. You’ll leave ever
class with one or two books you’ve made, perfect to use as notebooks, journals, unique greeting
cards, or to fill with art. All supplies and tools will be provided.
SESSION 1: FOLDED PAPER BOOKS AND FUN FLIPPY CARDS
Come learn how to make a piece of paper into a fun, magical, flipping card or mini book
using only scissors and glue.
SESSION 5 + 6: COPTIC BOOKBINDING
Our final sessions will be a two part lesson on an ancient bookbinding technique, the
coptic binding. We will use recycled book covers (from discarded library books), embellish them
with decorative paper, construct our book block and sew together a handsome and fun journal.
